Merit Health Biloxi Employee Honored with Proclamation from Biloxi Mayor

Mayor “FoFo” Gilich Declares August 3rd "Ira Fay Day"
(August 3, 2022) Today, Mayor “FoFo” Gilich honored local healthcare hero, Ira Fay Tremmel, by declaring August 3 “Ira Fay Day.” Ira Fay has been a nurse for 46 years, 30 of which have been spent working at Merit Health Biloxi, with August 3 being her work anniversary.
During her time at Merit Health Biloxi, Ira Fay has served as an ER nurse, ER director, and is currently the employee health nurse, a position she holds to this day. She has won numerous awards including the Nurse of the Quarter Q2 1997, Nurse of the Year 1997, Nursing Excellence Award Q2 2003, and Nurse of the Year 2003.
An award nomination from 1997 read “Ira Fay always maintains the highest level of professionalism at work. Patients in her care immediately recognize their caregiver really cares about them and what happens to them. [She] is a superb nurse and an excellent all around contributor to this hospital.”
Ira Fay has remained dedicated to Merit Health Biloxi by ensuring the safety of its patients and employees. She stayed in town to help during hurricane Katrina and worked all through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ira Fay Day declaration took place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Merit Health Biloxi where the mayor presented her with a proclamation, and her coworkers and friends were there to celebrate her loyalty and dedication to Merit Health Biloxi, the community, and all those she has touched throughout her career in healthcare.
