Naomi Hayes Receives Merit Health Natchez Nursing Excellence Award

NATCHEZ, MS – July 15, 2026 – Merit Health Natchez recently announced that Naomi Hayes, registered nurse and nursing supervisor, has been selected to receive its 2025 Nursing Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award, given in recognition of the critical role nurses play in treating our patients, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.

With 34 years of nursing experience and decades in nursing leadership, Naomi consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership and clinical excellence. She is a pillar of both our hospital and the community, frequently volunteering for hospital events on her personal time and representing our organization with pride. Naomi often arrives early and stays late to ensure seamless operations and provides invaluable support to both patients and staff. She is a dedicated mentor to novice nurses and fellow colleagues, leading by example and advocating fiercely for her team.
Known as a creative problem solver who maintains a positive demeanor under pressure, Naomi has earned widespread respect across multiple disciplines and has been instrumental in fostering physician engagement. According to Kevin Samrow, CEO of Merit Health Natchez, “Our physicians trust her implicitly, often noting that Naomi’s presence ensures tasks are completed efficiently. Naomi communicates staff needs to administration effectively, providing sound, well-researched recommendations. She is an outstanding advocate for community health and a nurse who truly excels at leading through crises.”
