Merit Health River Region Welcomes Dr. Adam Protos as New Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Vicksburg, MS – Merit Health River Region is enhancing its commitment to the Vicksburg/Warren County community with the appointment of cardiothoracic surgeon Adam Protos, M.A., M.D., to Merit Health Medical Group.

Dr. Protos is experienced in providing advanced cardiac and thoracic surgical care, and his appointment allows the hospital to expand its services and provide more healthcare solutions for the community.

“Dr. Protos brings a combination of clinical knowledge, research leadership and teaching experience to our team,” said Mark Gregson, interim CEO of Merit Health River Region. “His proven track record in cardiac surgery and commitment to innovation will strengthen our cardiovascular service line and enhance outcomes for our patients.”

Dr. Protos completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Louisville and served as attending cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Most recently, he served as associate professor of surgery and division chief of adult cardiac surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was also assistant program director for the thoracic surgery fellowship program.
