Merit Health Jackson/Vicksburg’s Commitment to Central Mississippi Continues - Top Priority is Serving Community with Quality Care

JACKSON, Miss., May 9, 2017 - The 6 Jackson/Vicksburg Merit Health hospitals touched thousands of lives over the past year, positively impacting the well-being of Central Mississippi and fulfilling its commitment to serve the healthcare needs of the area.
In 2016, our hospitals admitted more than 24,000 patients and delivered more than 4,000 babies. The emergency departments alone received more than 155,000 patients urgently seeking care.
“Central Mississippi can count on Merit Health for the healthcare services they need,” Merit Health CEO Steve Dobbs said. “Our top priority is to provide every patient with quality, personalized care.”
These high standards have been recognized by national accrediting bodies and respected agencies, including The Joint Commission, the American College of Cardiology, Get With the Guidelines and the Mississippi Cancer Registry.
Additionally, patients can access more specialty services close to home than ever before. Over ten new providers have come to the community over the past year, specializing in pediatrics, neurology, primary care, urology and cardiology just to name a few.
To support and enhance services in 2016, Merit Health invested more than $11.8 million dollars in renovating facilities, purchasing new equipment and updating infrastructure.
As Merit Health continuously evaluates how to best respond to patient needs, it also gives back. In the last year, Merit Health has provided more than $350 million in charity and uncompensated care to the area’s most in need residents. The hospital also leaves a sizable footprint of more than $13 million in property and business taxes, which in turn fund civic resources and services.
Merit Health also enjoyed working with a number of local non-profit and community organizations over the last year, including the American Heart Association, Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, Mississippi Burn Foundation, the American Cancer Society, Rankin County School District school nurse program and the March of Dimes. Additionally, Merit Health also has active Senior Circle and Healthy Woman programs and provided community screenings.
